Reverend Glen E. Jones, Sr.
Reverend Jones matriculated at several learning institutions. He was educated in the Sumter County Public School System. After graduating from Livingston High School in 1974, he enrolled in the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977. Later, he earned a Master of Education Degree from the University of West Alabama, formerly Livingston University, Livingston, Alabama. His formal education continued at East Mississippi Junior College, Scooba, Mississippi, where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science.
Still, Reverend Jones sought to expand his biblical knowledge by attending Bishop State Community College, Mobile, Alabama and The Birmingham Alabama Theological Seminary, Birmingham, Alabama.
His life was enriched by his union to Doris Pelt and the blessing of their son, Glen Jones II.
Reverend Jones fulfilled many of his aspirations in life. He served in the capacity of Special Education Teacher, an Assistant Principal, Coach, and Special Education Coordinator of the Sumter County School System. After his retirement from public education, he became a consultant with the Alabama State Department of Education, Montgomery, Alabama. Furthermore, he used all of his energies to fulfill his entrepreneurial interest, which included Owner and Operator of Gandy Funeral Home, Inc., Jones Vault Services, and Jones Farms.
His affiliations included Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Alabama education Retired Association, National Education Association, Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors and
Morticians Association, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Number Nine, and Chain of Hope.
Over the years, Reverend Jones continued to embrace his calling to the ministry. His pastorship included: Owen Chapel CME Church, Carrolton, Alabama; Saint James CME Church, Fayette, Alabama; Liberty CME Church, Sawyerville, Alabama; and Flatwood CME Church, Akron, Alabama. Through a divine revelation in 1984, God led Reverend Jones to merge the congregations of Liberty CME Church and Flatwood CME Church. As a result of the merger, Bass Tabernacle CME Church was established and Reverend Jones continued to fulfill the role of a visionary spiritual leader for twenty-five years.
In 2009, God placed Reverend Jones as pastor of the Star of Bethlehem CME Church, Havana, Alabama, where he served until the Lord called him from his labor to eternal rest.
Despite the many challenges Reverend Jones endure throughout his life, his perseverance led to many spiritual, educational, and professional accomplishments. He made his early transition at DCH Regional Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
